Helen FitzGerald: DEAD LOVELY endorsement

I loved it! The settings, geographic and emotional, are deeply familiar and yet terrifyingly strange. It's a thrilling debut from a writer of such talent and assurance it's hard to believe this is her first book. I've never read anything that captures that epic bewilderment of new motherhood with such elegance and clarity.

Ruth Snowden: THE ISLAND THAT WASN'T THERE

The first in a series of adventures for 8-12 y.o. girls, THE ISLAND THAT WASN'T THERE has been bought by Ruth Williams at Piccadilly Press.

THE ISLAND THAT WASN'T THERE (previously featured in my rights guide as YAN EYE)introduces us to Rosie, a girl who would rather be a pirate and whose desperation to join the boys'Harbour Gang leads her into very tricky and dangerous waters when she goes to sea with the mysterious old man Yan Eye heading towards Hildaland - an island that is only sometimes there.

Rosie's home is a fictionalised version of Whitehaven, the Cumbrian harbour town where Ruth Snowden lives.

Ruth Snowden has previously had adult non-fiction published by Hodder Murray and, after the level of interest in her writing at Frankfurt, more deals are expected soon.
