BLOOD ON THE SAND by – Wendy Salisbury
Wendy Salisbury, the author of the highly successful pair of memoirs THE TOYBOY DIARIES 1 and THE TOYBOY DIARIES 2 (Old Street Publishing) ventures into commercial fiction with her saga of sex, Spain, sun and bullfighting: BLOOD ON THE SAND. The book has already been acquired in Spain by the leading commercial imprint Ediciones B in a major deal through our Spanish sub-agents ACER Literaria - and as Wendy is Bi-lingual in Spanish & English she will be very busy on the PR front in Spring 2010 when the book publishes there.Set in the vividly evoked and heady atmosphere of the 1960s, BLOOD ON THE SAND takes the reader on a highly entertaining, raunchy and fast-paced journey as young Cassie Gordon sets out on an epic emotional journey from swinging London into the arms of the leading bull-fighter of the day.
This dramatic and entertaining romp has semi-autobiographical roots and its early chapters are influenced by Wendy’s own romantic involvement with the legendary matador El Cordobés. Wendy came to be part of his circle when she was acting as the Spanish interpreter for Dominique Lapierre and Larry Collins then working on the biography of El Cordobés: Or Shall I Dress You in Mourning? BLOOD ON THE SAND is a fictional imagining of what would have been if a girl like her had met the world's most famous bullfighter and stayed in Spain and become the wife of the legend. Having said that, the character el Macho and the girl Cassie are purely fictional creations and not at all like the real people Wendy and Manolo were in 1965 ...Wendy recently re-met El Cordobés and here are some pictures of Wendy and Manolo 40 years apart ....
