Last year John began to work on a graphic memoir called HERE'S JOHNNY, telling the story of his pitched battle with Multiple Sclerosis, the illness that is sapping his life away. But John, famed for his work on Judge Dredd and AD2000, decided that a straight memoir was not the way to go.


Instead he has produced the mesmerising and shocking graphic novel ONE HUNDRED MONTHS which is a lyrical and unsettling narrative, redolent of an epic poem, or an ancient saga. The novel is set in Megiddo, the biblical land of the apocalypse. There the main character of the novel, Mara, fights an epic battle with the Longpig, an evil demiurge who has infected the planet with his children. Mara, incensed by the death of her son - a Messianic figure - sets out to exact a brutal revenge on the wasted world which has sacrificed him. Written at a point when John has seen the end of his own life approaching, this is a graphic novel casting deep and disturbing shadows, challenging the reader at every step.

ONE HUNDRED MONTHS is a graphic novel in four sections. The first three are complete and the fourth is well under way. John considers this book to be his last work and unsurprisingly it is wrought with a visceral intensity that is beyond description.

John Hicklenton is one of the world's pre-eminent graphic artists. He is also the subject of Animal Monday's multi-award-winning documentary HERE'S JOHNNY which is receiving accolades around the world.
